Saturday 6th October in Victoria Park.
Our 2nd year of running the 10k. We had been watching the weather all week and gutted to see that sandwiched between 2 sunny, hot days, it was to rain. It looked like just light rain and not until after 11.00 am so we knew it would be dry to set up and could hold off until the runners were underway. But on the dot of 11.00 am someone unzipped the black cloud and the rain tumbled down. Chantal had managed to do a fantastic warm-up under a huge tree in order to protect everyone from the inevitable rain shower - huge thanks to her for getting everyone ready to run.
Despite this, our 78 runners did amazingly well and most of them actually said they preferred running in cooler, wet conditions. Many fell into the tent where Weleda were giving massages to tired legs probably to get some warmth and out of the rain for a bit.
The volunteers who helped out on the day were seriously amazing - many standing around in the wet under tiny umbrellas trying to keep dry but shouting encouraging words as runners passed. Other volunteers helping out with registering people and then handing out t-shirts and medals from a very inadequate paper pasting table (which incidentally collapsed twice). This is the 'Dunkirk' spirit of running a charity event on a tiny budget - making do with things donated to help on the day and with a willing spirit to make it all run smoothy - which it did.
Thanks also to Foster, Mark and Marisa standing out in the rain catching people's vest numbers as they arn through to get the timings accurate - writing with a soggy pen onto soggy paper despite trying to keep it all dry in the back of a car.
Well done to everyone who took part. We will be back next year. We hope you can join us. Watch out over the next few days for the video and photos of the event. We have had a sneak preview they are awesome.
