Hearing the words 'You have cancer' is life changing

"My world suddenly collapsed; I was devastated and in complete shock"

"Looking back at that time now, I remember being so numb and shocked"

"I can't tell you the fear and helplessness you feel when you are diagnosed with cancer"

"Why me? It's so unfair"

Words from some of the people we are helping

Make a will and leave a legacy - it's easier than you think

A will is a really important document that will ensure your savings and possessions go to the people and causes you really are about. Once you have made your will, you can relax and get on with life - knowing your wishes will be carried out.  A gift in your will to Yes to Life, no matter how small, means you can be part of changing the way people cope with cancer; taking away the fear; providing support and information about options; and helping people have the best chance of reclaiming their health

We are here to help you - some commonly asked questions

When is a good time to make a will?

The simple answer is now. Sadly, many people die without making a will, which means whilst they really wanted to support something they were passionate about; it leaves the family or friends with a tricky situation.  By making a will now, you can have peace of mind that you have protected your estate and provided for everyone you wanted to help.

Can a gift to charity help me pay less tax?

Technically, yes.  Gifts to UK registered charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax. We do advise you strongly to seek advice from you solicitor on tax issues.

How will Yes to Life use your gift?

When we receive your legacy gift, it will go into a restricted fund to provide help where it is needed the most.  We normally name the fund after the person who has donated the legacy so that people we are helping know where the money has come from.  If you wish to remain anonymous of course we will respect this as well.

Eva Bendall died tragically young of breast cancer but, in response to the support she received from Yes to Life, left a very generous legacy to the charity.

How do a leave a gift in my will?

If you already have a will and want to leave a legacy gift to Yes to Life, all you have to do is make a Codicil.  This just means 'amend' and that's literally all you have to do.  Speak to your solicitor about making a simple amendment to your existing will and they will guide you through it.

If you don't have a will there are 3 main options.  You can leave:

  • A share in your Estate
  • A specific Sum
  • A specific Item

Once you have decided what you would like to leave, then you can ask your solicitor to write your will. To make it easier, we have created a document you can take with you which contains information about the charity.  Please just email office@yestolife.org.uk to ask for this information and we will email it to you straight away.
