Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated in Ayrshire since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help for cancer patients, their families, carers and the bereaved. Their Cancer Support Centres in Ayr and Kilmarnock, were opened in 1997 in response to an identified need for counselling and support services. The centres still operate today providing a drop-in facility for cancer patients, their families and the bereaved and provide a range of services including counselling, support groups and complementary therapies, including aromatherapy, counselling, reflexology, hypnotherapy/relaxation, reiki, and Indian head massage. A range of theraputic services are offered in centres, at home and in hospital. They also have a patient transport service, which is especially useful for patients who feel unwell, those living in rural areas, the elderly and parents taking their children for treatment.
