Cancer is a highly complex group of diseases, and it is known to manifest differently in different people, often responding more favourably to individualised approaches to treatment and care. Maggie Fisher
Profile:
Maggie Fisher's inspiration to train as a counsellor grew from her work as a ward sister at the Royal Marsden Hospital. She has now been in practice as a therapist since 1987. She has completed additional training including transpersonal psychology, the use of creative arts, CBT and trauma techniques (including EMDR). She has a wide range of experience in the NHS in Primary Care and in Private Practice. Maggie works as a psychotherapist full time and continues to be on the general nursing register. Psychotherapy literally means to nurse the soul, deriving its name from the ancient Greeks and their understanding of human nature and the psyche. Maggie feels her nursing and therapy experience come together when working with people with cancer. She has personal experience of people close to her having a cancer diagnosis. She works with individuals (adults and young people) and couples. She is a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Supervisor and a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist. She also has a clinic also at Burgess Hill, Sussex.
Notes:
Maggie Fisher is one of a group of individual cancer counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK who have been specially selected by Yes to Life on the basis of their suitability. All of this group are fully qualified and insured and have a minimum of 2 years experience of working with and supporting cancer patients and their relatives. When choosing a therapist, apart from confidence in their experience, it is always important to check that you feel comfortable with them. For this reason, it is a good idea to have an initial session before making your decision.
Specialisms:
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
