Breast Cancer Haven

Breast Cancer Haven was founded by Sara Davenport in 1997. The idea for the charity came following the experience of a close family friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Haven, London opened in February 2000 followed by Breast Cancer Haven, Hereford in January 2004, Breast Cancer Haven, Yorkshire in October 2008, Breast Cancer Haven, Wessex in 2015, Breast Cancer Haven, Worcester in 2016 (outreach) and Breast Cancer Haven, West Midlands in 2017. A one-day-a-week service at the Whittington Hospital, Archway, London was established in June 2017 and a satellite one-day a week all cancers service was opened at Maggie’s, Cheltenham also in June 2017.

The support programme includes 12 free hours of one-to-one appointment time. This is made up of two hours with a healthcare professional and up to ten hours of supportive therapy time which is tailoured to your individual needs. They offer assessments, counselling and therapies to help with the emotional and physical side-effects of breast cancer and treatments. They also offer help with healthy eating and exercise and you can join their support groups.

The support is offered live online and over the phone. The service available to anyone affected by breast cancer, including people who carry genes like BRCA 1 or 2. It doesn’t matter where you live and you don’t need a referral from a doctor. If people close to you need emotional support, they can talk to the counsellors too, free of charge.

Breast Cancer Haven are the official breast cancer community host on Health Unlocked which is a social network for health. By finding others with similar health backgrounds on the website, you don’t have to take on day to day health concerns alone.
