Find a Peer Supporter to help you.
If you’re struggling with a recent cancer diagnosis and want support from someone who knows what it’s like, a peer mentor could help you.
What do peer mentors do?
Peer mentors draw on their own experiences of receiving a cancer diagnosis to support you on your journey. They offer emotional and practical support to help you feel less isolated and lonely, overcome obstacles in your life and build a better future for yourself.
What could a peer mentor help me with?
You’re the expert on your own wellbeing, and you know what’s important to you. Your peer mentor will listen and work with you as an equal. You both have unique experiences, and will learn from each other on your journey together. Your peer mentor will help you think about other support networks or activities you can include to enhance your well-being. When you’re ready, your mentor can support you with changes you want to make to your life and help you plan to make them happen. For example, you might want to:
explore how to keep well
find activities or social groups in your local community
plan an exercise routine
explore educational, voluntary, or work opportunities.
Your peer mentor can meet with you up to 12 times online or by telephone, either weekly or fortnightly.

Why be a Peer Supporter?
Supporting someone through a tough time is incredibly rewarding for both the person you support, and also for you. Helping someone feels fantastic and can support you to understand your own strengths. Through our scheme, you’ll gain an accredited training certificate, listening and mentoring skills; experience and knowledge which can help lead you onto other voluntary and paid work.
Peer Supporters will draw on their own experiences of being a cancer survivor to support mentees. You will offer emotional and practical support to help mentees overcome obstacles in their life and build a better future for themselves.
