Associazione Ricerca di Terapie Oncologiche Integrate

The ARTOI is a non-profit and multidisciplinary professional organisation that studies, researches and applies treatments for cancer using integrative care. These treatments include the use of natural and botanical products, acupuncture, mind-body therapy, and other complementary processes. They aim is not only to treat neoplastic disease using new methods, but also to improve their patients’ quality of lives in the process.

The association aims to bring together many medical professionals (oncologists, surgeons, radiation therapists, nutritionists, immunologists and many others) specialising also in oncology to contribute to operational synergies in treating cancer. They also identify special methodologies and support training in both medical and paramedical oncology.

Their main objectives are:

  • Patient care which involves not only treating the patient’s disease but also the patient as a person
  • The circulation of medical findings; supporting new the development of new protocols and the birth of new centres for these protocols
  • The prevention and protection of patients at risk or affected by cancer. Prevention involves improving health so that patients are at less risk of getting cancer, and helping to reduce the risk of a relapse of a malignancy. Protection means reducing the side-effects of the anticancer treatments their patients receive.

The organisation was founded by Massimo Bonucci, MD, a medical oncologist and pathologist in Rome. He is the Director of Clinical Pathology and pathological anatomy in a Nursing Home in San Feliciano. He graduated from the University of Pisa in 1986 and, aside from practicing, teaches at the Universities of Milan and Chieti. He is also a board member and advisor of the Foundation for Collaborative Medicine and Research in Connecticut, USA.
