Cancer Help was formed by Margaret O Donoghue in 1989 and now has two fully staffed day centres, bringing invaluable benefits to countless thousands of cancer patients in the Preston and Garstang areas. The charity was created to fill the gaps that existed in the health service’s treatment of cancer patients and their families and services offered include counselling and a number of complementary therapies such as aromatherapy, reflexology, meditation and visualisation. Each year the charity provides over 6,000 patient visits/contacts that are free to all cancer patients. The charity generates the majority of its own funds through four shops in Preston, Longridge and Garstang. Cancer Help also provides a number of out-reach programmes. Regardless of its location the services are open to all cancer patients, their families and carers.
