Cleveland Clinic is a a nonprofit multi-specialty academic medical centre that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.
For the cancer genetic testing and counselling services, Cleveland Clinic sees patients at locations throughout Northeast Ohio and Florida, USA.
Genetic Testing for Cancer Risk
Healthcare providers typically do genetic tests (DNA tests) to confirm someone has an inherited (hereditary) cancer caused by genetic mutations. About 5% to 12% of all cancers are caused by genetic mutations. If someone has an inherited cancer, healthcare providers may suggest family members have the same tests to see if they have the same genetic mutations.
Genetic cancer tests include; single mutation, single gene testing and panel tests.
Cancer Screening
Cancer screening refers to tests that check for signs of cancer before you have symptoms. Studies show that some screening tests help find cancer early, when it’s easier to treat and possibly cure. But cancer screening tests don’t diagnose cancer. They are a way to find out if you could have cancerous cells or early signs of cancer.
Cancer Screening tests at the Cleveland Clinic include lab tests, imaging tests and genetic tests.
Additionally, “The Galleri test” is a new blood test that can detect more than 50 types of cancer. You can register with GRAIL (the healthcare company responsible for developing the Galleri test) and order the test.
Patients need to contact Cleveland Clinic to request an appointment in order to find out the potential fees associated with the services.
