As a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist, Susan Freedman has extensive experience of working with bereavement and loss at a local Hospice and for a Cancer Support Charity. She also has experience of counselling cancer patients or their family members during or after their cancer journey. Susan recognises that a cancer diagnosis has a ripple effect which reaches beyond the patient and that it will evoke many emotions and feelings. It may therefore be helpful to talk to someone outside of family and friends in a confidential and professional environment. Grief is a normal reaction to bereavement and loss, but sometimes it can become complicated by other factors and it may feel difficult to carry on your day-to-day life or function at your best. She offers a space where you can explore your feelings in a confidential environment where you will not be judged, even when these feelings may be frightening, worrying or painful. The psychodynamic model that she follows uses the relationship between counsellor and client to think about and explore feelings that emerge in the session in order to gain insight. You may also look at past experiences as these may be linked to current difficulties. BSc (Hons), PGDip, MBACP (Accred). Post Graduate Diploma in Contemporary Therapeutic Counselling.
Susan Freedman is one of a group of individual cancer counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK who have been specially selected by Yes to Life on the basis of their suitability. All of this group are fully qualified and insured and have a minimum of 2 years experience of working with and supporting cancer patients and their relatives. When choosing a therapist, apart from confidence in their experience, it is always important to check that you feel comfortable with them. For this reason, it is a good idea to have an initial session before making your decision.
