Professor Keyvan Moghissi is the Clinical Director of The Yorkshire Laser Centre which is funded predominately by charitable donations through the Moghissi Laser Trust. The centre has earned an international reputation at the forefront of medical uses in treating cancers and other significant conditions.

Professor Moghissi is the Founder Member and President of the European Platform for Photo Dynamic Medicine (EPPM)

Yorkshire Laser Centre is working at the forefront of the use of lasers in the treatment of cancer and other life-threatening conditions. They work in partnership with the NHS and is supported by Moghissi Laser Trust (Charity No 326689). The team has pioneered the development of photodynamic therapy (PDT) which combines the use of lasers with a photo-sensitive drug to provide highly targeted treatment.

The Yorkshire Laser Centre has been operating as a project of the Moghissi Laser Trust Fund since 1997. Prof Keyvan Moghissi gives his time and expertise free to the project. Moghissi Laser Trust’s mission is to make laser surgery and Photodynamic Therapy available to patients, particularly those with cancer, by promoting pre-clinical and clinical research, clinical trials and treatment of patients.

The Centre also works on clinical trials of the effects of Photodynamic Therapy on different types of cancer.

The team are investigating the use of their newest treatment, Daylight Photo Dynamic Therapy, within Health Centres in and around the region.

A photosensitising (light activated) drug is first administered to patients followed by irradiation of cancerous tissue with laser light, which converts the drug into a powerful cytotoxic (cell destroying) agent.
