Cancer is a highly complex group of diseases, and it is known to manifest differently in different people, often responding more favourably to individualised approaches to treatment and care. Commonweal
Profile:

The Commonweal Cancer Help programme is a week-long retreat for people with cancer. An integrated programme of healing, support sessions, massage, yoga and relaxation. Evening sessions are led by co-founder Michael Lerner exploring choices in mainstream therapies, healing, integrative therapies, pain and suffering, and death and dying. CCHP is for people at any stage of their cancer journey and their significant others. The retreats are limited to eight or nine participants, and is an educational rather than treatment programme.

The retreat also offers support sessions with a psychotherapist, massage sessions, sandtray (an experience in symbolic learning), healing arts, music and poetry. Commonweal has hosted over 200 retreats for three decades, and have found that the programme has beneficial effects on anxiety, fear, helplessness, and many other distressing emotions that may occur due to cancer.

Notes:

Participants must be under the care of a physician, able to care for themselves, and sufficiently medically stable to spend a week in a rural retreat setting.
