COPES stands for Cervical, Ovarian, Perineal, Endometrial Support. The COPES support group was launched in 2005, as patients wanted local support for those affected by gynaecological cancers. COPES aims to offer patient support, raising awareness, research and education for the benefit of inpatients and outpatients who are affected by a gynaecological cancer.
The monthly support group/coffee morning is held on the first Saturday of each month, in two venues.
In January, March, May, July, September, November, it’s held at the Ekco Sports and Social Club, Thornford Gardens, Southend. SS2 6PU.
In February, April, June, August, October and December, it’s held at the Women’s Clinic, Nightingale Centre, Southend Hospital.
All coffee meetings feature friendly reassurance, from women who have also been diagnosed with gynae cancers.
A qualified nurse is usually available for the hospital meetings to offer support and information.
Additionally, relaxation, tai chi and yoga are part of the coffee mornings.
