After qualifying from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, Dr Sosie Kassab gained considerable experience in a range of different medical fields before joining The Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM) in 1990. Here she became interested in the use of complementary therapies for patients with cancer and has continued to specialise in this field and, in 1998 she was appointed Director of Complementary Cancer Services.
Sosie specialises in homeopathy, acupuncture and Iscador (a mistletoe preparation). These therapies are used to help with symptom relief, including side effects of conventional cancer treatments and quality of life. She is particularly concerned to ensure that complementary therapies are used safely and appropriately alongside conventional treatments.
She was a lead author for the 2009 Cochrane Review Homeopathy for Adverse Effects of Cancer Treatments, and was involved in developing the Complementary Therapies component of the NICE document Improving Supportive and Palliative Care for Adults with Cancer. She teaches nationally on the role of complementary therapies in this field.
