The toxic side-effects of cancer treatments are well recognised, but poorly addressed within conventional circles. These are generally the worst aspect of treatment from the patient’s perspective, often making their life a misery for months on end. The skin regularly takes the brunt of treatment toxicity, particularly in the case of radiotherapy treatment, but also many of the chemotherapies used, and in there past there were few resources to ameliorate, or better still, avoid skin damage. Fiona Murphy has made it her business to change this and to develop a range of strategies to address all the challenges that cancer treatment presents to the skin.
