Cancer Lifeline
Profile:

Cancer Lifeline provides a welcoming home from home for individuals and their families living with cancer. The organisation was set up in October 1999 by a group of women all of whom are living with cancer themselves. The organisation is committed to supporting those coping with a cancer diagnosis and their family members / carers in the North Belfast community, including the Shankill and Glengormley.

The provision of counselling, complementary therapies, welfare benefits advice, support group sessions as well as a range of information mornings and educational classes helps individuals through the emotional, physical and psychological impact of their diagnosis. They offer one-to-one complementary therapy appointments to cancer patients, their family members and carers.

They also offer the ‘Active Lives After Cancer’ support project, after it was identified that there were a number of people aged 60+ with specific concerns and needs. The programme aims to support isolated individuals who are affected by cancer through a targeted, age-specific programme, which includes transport to and from Cancer Lifeline, group activities and short-term befriending visits.
