The Fountain Centre is located within The Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, and is an integral part of the St Luke’s Cancer Centre. Established in 1998 to provide a caring environment for patients newly diagnosed with cancer, it aims to balance traditional approaches to cancer treatment with a range of complementary therapies and individual support. Links with Social Services enable patients with financial difficulties to access the resource they offer and complementary therapies are available to give patients and their carers an introduction to this often new approach to cancer treatment. Patients of St Luke’s are offered four free hands-on therapies and any number of group sessions. Carers may have treatment sessions as well if there is an appointment available, but are asked to give a contribution. Integrated Cancer Care is a new project that also now operates from The Fountain Centre, which aims to integrate the medical and psychosocial care of patients using non-conventional anticancer therapies, back into the National Health Service.
