Catherine Schopfer’s experience of breast cancer was to prompt her to employ her skills as a coach to support people with cancer.
The role of Cancer Coach has emerged in recent years in response to the immense difficulties and isolation faced by those diagnosed with cancer – the psychological and emotional challenges, the daunting treatment decisions. the massive learning curve of entering the entirely unfamiliar world of the cancer patient. The value of a trusted and expert sounding board to focus and reflect your thought processes, to signpost you to unfamiliar specialist resources and simply to be a listening ear through your adversities, cannot be overstated. Catherine Schopfer was already an experienced coach at the time she was diagnosed with cancer, and so she was quick to recognise the value coaching could offer her at this time. Once her treatment was ended, Catherine realised what an ideal position she was in to be able to draw on her experience with cancer to offer coaching to others facing a diagnosis.
