Dr Ron Hunninghake & Dr Kirsten West explore the deeper meaning and implications of holistic medicine, based on developing neuroscience.
Our understanding of the human brain and the way it operates has grown significantly alongside our ability to monitor brain activity with modern scanning techniques. What is being uncovered is the paradoxical nature of our make up, in that the two hemispheres of the brain have completely different, even conflicting views of reality, but nonetheless together they make up the totality of who we are. Medicine that is built around the left brain view of reality alone can be efficient, practical, effective to some degree, but will always fall short of providing the broad – holistic – support that also acknowledges and encapsulates the right brain perspective. Dr Ron Hunninghake, Principal of the Riordan Clinic in Kansas, and Dr Kirsten West, Naturopathic Oncologist at the clinic, explain the direction they feel is needed in cancer care.
