Wendy Smith is an experienced Nutritional Therapist practising in south east London. She provides tailored nutritional advice and support to individuals with a range of health issues. She specialises in metabolic/inflammatory conditions, most notably cancer, obesity and lifestyle diabetes. Her motivation comes from a long-held passion and belief in the power of food to transform health.
Wendy holds a BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Therapy from the University of Westminster (2001) and is a course graduate of AFMCP (Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice) (2017). She is registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT). Wendy dedicates many hours to researching, attending CPD courses and keeping up to date with the latest advances in nutritional science.
The first consultation lasts approximately 90 minutes when a detailed case history is taken. This will include family medical history, the clients medical history and a comprehensive review of their symptoms. A questionnaire is usually completed as well as a three-day diet history to assess their current nutrient intake. Biochemical tests may also be recommended, these are typically non-invasive and may involve the provision of urine, stool, saliva or hair samples.
Following this, a programme of individualised therapy will be drawn up and is likely to include dietary modification, lifestyle advice and possibly supplementation. Follow-up consultations are available to assess progress and modify the programme if necessary. These consultations last 30 to 45 minutes and are, on average, two to four weeks after the initial consultation.
Wendy works out of Blackheath Complementary Health Centre, a multi-disciplinary practice providing holistic health care for the whole family from infants to elders. They’re dedicated to the promotion of natural healthy living and to the wellbeing of body, mind and spirit.
