Power dynamics and decision making with your oncologist
Date: 13 Dec 2021
The dynamics of the clinician – patient relationship in clinic plays a key role in empowering patients to take control of their health and participate in decision-making about their care. Oncology clinic consultations are often not enough patient – centric and not all aspects of holistic care are covered. Clinicians need to work with their patients and focus on all aspects of care that are most valuable to them, in order for them to realise their optimal vision for health.

Dr Penny Kechagioglou is a Clinical Oncologist with 11 years of experience as an NHS consultant, alongside various leadership roles in the public and private sector. She is currently the Chief Clinical Information Officer and deputy Chief Medical Officer at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, where she is leading on the design and implementation of the digital health strategy and the Trust’s electronic health record. Dr Kechagioglou is passionate about integrated models of care, health and wellbeing, prevention and health promotion and her vision is for integrative oncology approaches to become mainstream in the NHS clinics.
