Cancer Black Care charity was founded by Isaac Dweben in 1995, three years after the death of his elder brother from prostate cancer. Isaac had observed that there was a general lack of culturally specific advice and information available about cancer and its treatment and was struck by the very limited level of awareness about the condition amongst those from the Afro Caribbean community. He also realised that other marginalised groups were experiencing the same lack of sensitivity to their cultural and ethnic diversity and felt compelled to do something about it.
Cancer Black Care offer a network of empathetic counsellors and support groups with a view to creating a safe space for black people to share their experiences and find strength in one another.
