Dr Colin Hopper BDS, MBBS, MD, FDS, FRCS is a world-leading expert on Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for cancers of the Head and Neck. He is the founder member/officer of the Head and Neck Optical Diagnostic Society and European Platform for Photodynamic Therapy.

Dr Hopper was elected to President of the International Photodynamic Association for a two-year term in 2023.

Dr Hopper at University College London Hospital is the only clinician in the NHS who offers Photodynamic Therapy for deeper cancers that would otherwise require surgery.

A photosensitising (light activated) drug is first administered to patients followed by irradiation of cancerous tissue with laser light, which converts the drug into a powerful cytotoxic (cell destroying) agent.
