An anthroposophical clinic, established in 1921, with 63 beds plus out-patient facilities. There is an oncology day clinic with a full range of therapies.
Ita Wegman and Rudolf Steiner developed anthroposophically expanded medicine at this clinic in 1921. The clinical-therapeutic institute retained its international character as the only anthroposophical hospital in the world until the 1960s. It is now a non-profit public company.
Anthroposophic medicine is what we call today as integrative medicine; it is based on conventional medical competence, which is supplemented by the holistic understanding of anthroposophy. Anthroposophic medicine assumes that illnesses are not malfunctions that occur by chance. Diseases are seen as processes that occur as a physical or mental disorder or change, when the interrelationships between body, mind and spirit of a patient no longer mesh harmoniously.
All anthroposophic doctors at the clinic have completed a medical degree with a license to practice medicine and, as a rule, have completed specialist training.
Arlesheim Clinic support cancer patients throughout their journey, including all common chemotherapy, anti-body therapies and other systemic tumour therapies in an outpatient or, if necessary, in-patient setting. In addition, the experienced team of doctors apply their experience in anthroposophic medicine and integrative oncology.
If we understand cancer not just as a local occurrence, but as a disease affecting the whole person, treatment approaches are necessary that promote recovery and strengthen the immune system. In this context, mistletoe therapy, applied in a differentiated manner, is an essential and, through numerous clinical studies, scientifically broadly supported pillar of a comprehensive, integrative, oncological treatment.
Mistletoe therapy strengthens and harmonises the heat organism, which is often hypothermic in the case of cancer, and depending on the dosage it can even lead to (desirable) fever. The associated diverse effects of mistletoe therapy on the immune system have been well researched and have a positive effect on wellbeing and the course of the disease.
But heat generation is also supported by external applications such as wraps, pads and rubs, which are regularly used by patients. The high level of expertise of their integrative medically trained care contributes significantly to the self-determined recovery of patients. There is also a wide range of artistic therapies, eurythmy therapy and physiotherapeutic applications, which are used specifically and carried out within the clinic.
The clinic offers a comprehensive, holistic therapy concept that can prevent, cure or, in advanced situations, significantly improve the quality of life.
