Tenovus
Profile:

Tenovus is a charity, founded in 1943 by ten businessmen, which initially funded a wide range of projects in the local area. In the 1960s, Tenovus built the Tenovus Institute for Cancer Research in Cardiff which carried out vital research into the causes of cancer. Since then, they have concentrated their efforts on cancer and are now recognised for their pioneering work. Scientists developed the use of Tamoxifen to treat breast cancer, now used worldwide to treat breast cancer, and Zoladex which treats prostate cancer.

In February 2009, the Mobile Cancer Support Unit was launched at the Celtic Manor to bring cancer care to the heart of the patients community. Their counselling service is available to anyone affected by cancer, including family and friends and carers. This is offered over the telephone or face to face at venues in Barry, Bridgend, Cardiff, Carmarthen, Cwmbran and Merthyr and on board their Mobile Cancer Support Unit. Everyone within the counselling team works to the ethical framework as stipulated by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
