Thames Hospice
Profile:

Thames Hospice is an independent charity which was established in 2005 as a result of a merger between Thames Valley Hospice in Windsor and The Paul Bevan Cancer Foundation in Ascot. It serves the local surrounding communities of East Berkshire and South Bucks. Both organisations started in the early 80s in response to the local need for a hospice. The Windsor Hospice was opened by the Queen in 1987, with Ascot following in 1997.

Although the majority of patients have cancer, they are increasingly treating other life-limiting illness such as Motor Neurone, MS, Parkinson’s and renal failure.

Services include specialist emotional/psychological support, which can be arranged at Thames Hospice via the counselling and psychology team. They also provide a wide range of therapies both at the Hospice and in the community, aimed at alleviating symptoms and improving quality of life.

Their complementary therapy team also provides acupuncture. During the first visit, there will be a full consultation to help the therapists create a tailor-made package of care for you. This will include questions about your health and how you are feeling, what you would like to get out of the treatments and any areas of concern you need support with. Together you will plan a course of treatments that you feel will be both beneficial and suitable for you.
