Why become a Wigwam facilitator?

As a Facilitator of a Wigwam Cancer Support Group you not only become part of the Wigwam community, you also become part of the bigger Yes to Life family.

• You will meet new people and develop new skills and knowledge.
• Supporting yourself and others with health and wellbeing is an investment in your own personal growth.
• You will have the opportunity to follow an induction programme and will have the ongoing support of a qualified supervisor and access to a regular peer to peer support group and network.
• You will be contributing to the mission of Yes to Life to increase support for people in the UK and beyond in taking an integrative approach to their cancer care. Our vision is for a network of Cancer Support Groups affiliated to Yes to Life Wigwam across the country.

What does it involve?

You can become a Wigwammer in your local area with your Wigwam Cancer Support Group affiliated to Wigwam and Yes to Life. This is a key role to help bring people together, encouraging them to share, listen and learn. Every group will be unique depending on the individuals involved. Support Groups can offer a life line to people living with cancer, offering them a sense of community with like-minded people. We ask that you are able to commit to regular groups in order to create a real impact on people’s lives.

What qualities are helpful?

• Experience of living with cancer and enthusiasm for taking a stand for your own health and well-being.
• Experience of an integrative approach to cancer.
• Being a good listener and enjoying meeting new people and talking with them.
• Familiarity working in groups or teams.
• Comfortable talking about cancer, illness and loss.
• Naturally empathetic, warm and friendly.
• Organisational skills and a clear idea of the importance of boundaries.
