Faced with less than a year to live, Dale Atkinson decided to see what he could do by taking matters into his own hands and looking beyond standard of care.
Dale Atkinson’s story is another tragic tale of being repeatedly let down by our healthcare system – countless missed opportunities where no-one was really paying attention – and at the end of it all he was faced with an extremely poor prognosis – less than a year to live. That prognosis was, of course, based on the treatment resources available within ’standard of care’, and was the signal for Dale, as for so many before him, to start to look ‘beyond the standard’. This strategy has so far paid off handsomely, and he is very much alive to tell us his story and his plans to move the bar on standard care and so improve everyone’s prognosis.
