Biochemistry ‘explorer’ Dawn Waldron looks at medicinal mushrooms through the lens of cancer metabolism to see what we can learn.
Medicinal mushrooms have developed into a highly specialised field – mycology – and are lauded for their immense potential to help those with cancer, especially while undergoing conventional treatments. For this reason, when practising nutritional therapy, Dawn Waldron would refer her clients to a mycologist for specialist advice. Now that Dawn is pursuing a role as a teacher and ‘explorer’ of cancer metabolism, she had cause to review the scientific literature for evidence of the effects of medicinal mushrooms on cell metabolism. She found precious little, which led her to contemplating this arena in more depth.
